Favre at it again!

These are some comments I have heard & written…..

Poor, poor Brett, must have been torture not being the top topic in
sports for a whole two weeks

Jet Favre

Jet Favre

Favre, you are my favorite QB ever, but good god, be a man. You should
have broached to the subject like “Hey Ted, I’m thinking about coming
back.” Instead of sitting there like a little girl biting her nails
waiting to be asked to the prom.

You’ll see, as the season goes on, this is a man who was broken and
will never let this go. It’ll all come crashing down in the middle of
the season when he quits.

Favre really just can’t keep his mouth shut for 5 minutes can he?
We’ll see how much he wants to talk when he starts getting grilled by
the NY media. (continue reading…)

Top College Seniors in 2008 – Defensive Line

by on Aug.29, 2008, under NCAA, NFL Draft

The 2009 Senior DE class is full of potential and ‘tweeners. Johnson has amazing size and burst but is thin and lanky. He’ll be in the first half of round 1 with a big season but without one, he could fall a little like former Miami DE Calais Campbell did in 2008 (probably not that far though).

Pannel Egboh - Stanford

Pannel Egboh - Stanford

Orakpo and Egboh have shown flashes of talent which is enough to propel them into Day 1 but they need to show more to rise into round 1. Orakpo has great size and ability to get at the QB but he needs to prove he’s more than just a flash in the pan. Egboh will be an interesting guy to watch. Stanford switched to a 4-3 and he blossomed. With a big season, a 3-4 team will look at him early round 2 and possibly higher to play DE. Shaughnessy must overcome an injury plagued career and prove he can be an every down DE to make it into Day 1. He’s a little light and may not have a true position in the NFL but he’ll get a look from 3-4 teams as an OLB. Jackson will definitely get looked at by 3-4 teams as a DE but he has the ability to be an interior pass rusher in a 4-3. He’s not a natural pass rusher off the edge, which is why his sack numbers are low, but he’s a very versatile and talented player.

Defensive Ends:
Tyson Jackson – LSU
Michael Johnson – Georgia Tech
Brian Orakpo – Texas
Matt Shaughnessy – Wisconsin
Pannel Egboh – Stanford

Sleeper Senior: Cyril Obiozor – Texas A&M
Junior to watch: George Selvie – South Florida

Game Day: Green Bay vs. Tennessee

by on Aug.28, 2008, under Game Previews

The Green Bay Packers host the Tennessee Titans in their final pre-season game. Green Bay, 1-2 thus far in exhibition play, will play mostly reserves tonight while the Titans will play their starters into the third quarter. For Packers players on the bubble, this will be their final big opportunity to impress the coaching staff in hopes of making the final roster.

Remember, the kick-off for has been moved to 6:00pm!

Brandon Jackson… The Leading Rusher for the 2008 Packers?

by on Aug.28, 2008, under Opinion

Brandon Jackson is pushing for more playing time

Brandon Jackson is pushing for more playing time

Anyone who follows the Green Bay Packers understands that there have been some changes recently in the offensive backfield. With a new, young quarterback in Aaron Rodgers set to learn on the fly and earn his stripes this season, coupled with the obvious need to put more emphasis on the running game while Rodgers gains invaluable experience, most are assuming that Ryan Grant will have a very good year. He very well could. However, there are several reasons to think that Ryan won’t be the best running back on Green Bay’s roster in 2008. That mantle may very well go to Brandon Jackson.

Grant burst onto the scene last year, and in what proved to be one of Ted Thompson’s best trades to date, rushed for nearly 1,000 yards in approximately a half-season’s worth of carries. He destroyed Seattle in the divisional playoff round after overcoming two horrible gaffes to start the game, and even though his performance was disappointing in the NFC Championship game, so was that of many other members of the team that night.

The Slant

What Kind of Game-Day Fan are You?

It’s 11:45 on a Sunday morning and my house is preparing for the worst. The kids have all strategically asked to go to friends homes for the afternoon. They have even asked to be picked up by the friend’s parents…..just in case a traffic slow down forces them to be in the car with me at noon or (gasp) later. The wife has locked herself in the basement, she has all her game supplies with her…snacks, drinks, headphones, a tranquilizer gun….you know, the basics. The dog….well she usually disappears sometime around Friday night and doesn’t reappear till Tuesday evening. There was the one time she came back on a Monday…remember the Bear game last year…she does.
