Brohm, Flynn watch Rodgers

Thursday night’s pre-season game will go a long way in deciding who will start the season as the Packers number two quarterback. Brian Brohm (a second round pick) entered training camp as the primary back-up. A few, but not many, even thought that Brohm had a chance at pushing Aaron Rodgers for the starting job.

Through the practices and three pre-season games only one thing is clear, the race for Aaron Rodgers’ back-up is neck and neck. Brohm has looked lost in each of his first three exhibition chances. Flynn has looked, at the very least, competent against fellow third stringers in his in-game action. Though, Brohm has shown flashes of his great potential, that would have made him a first round pick last year, in practice.

Mike McCarthy has made it clear, as recently as yesterday, that the Packers are content going into the season with the quarterback trio of Rodgers, Brohm, and Flynn. If anything, it’s because they like the potential of their two rookies better than who’s on the list of free agent signal callers. You can’t fault the Packers for not trying, as they made an offer to Daunte Culpepper during the off-season. Also, it’s unlikely that Flynn or especially Brohm would make it to the Packers practice squad. (Click the link below to read the rest of the article.)
