You saw the game on TV, read the box scores, analyzed all the X’s and O’s, and there is nothing I can add to that. However, the greatest sports team in all sports with the greatest fans of all fans, you never really hear much of what it’s like to be there in person. If you please, allow me to be your eyes and ears for having attended the pre-season game with the Titans this past August 27.
The girlfriend and I left work early on Thursday to drive from Milwaukee in time for the game. We were fortunate that even though we took the freeway past Miller Park and downtown, we were not affected by the 105th anniversary celebration of Harley Davidson. Hog riders across the globe were in town and the weekend of events was kicking off at a rally located at Miller Park. Harley riders were converging there; combine that with the early stages of rush hour and a percentage leaving town early for the holiday weekend, the freeways were a mess. Depending on which direction you were coming in from, it was a virtual gridlock and lines of cars backed up forever.
Fortunately, the way to Green Bay was clear. Needless to say, though, when you say “Wisconsin,” it’s the equivalent of saying “cheese” or “Harley.” Wisconsin is definitely the center of the universe for a number of things, but the center of our universe was Packer football so the thunder of rumblebuckets faded away in the rear view mirror.
